LTO extends MV registration for plates ending in 5

Last month, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) extended the motor vehicle (MV) registration for cars with plates ending in 4 until May 31, 2022. And now they're doing the same one-month extension for MV registrations expiring this May.

The agency has announced in their official Facebook page the extended validity of registration for motor vehicles with plate numbers ending in 5. As a result, the affected cars can still be used until June 30, 2022 without fear of being apprehended by the authorities. In addition, the announcement means that affected vehicle owners can still plan ahead and schedule a renewal at their nearest district office without being penalized for late registration.

For motorists that are unsure about the steps of renewing their motor vehicle registration, we're reminding everyone that private motor vehicle inspection center (PMVIC) inspection remains optional, meaning they can still choose to go to a private emissions testing center (PETC) for MV registration purposes.

In the case of vehicle owners that have their licenses expired last April and this month, the agency has also extended the validity of their driver's licenses.

Of course, motorists should not wait until the last minute to renew these documents. The only good thing here is that LTO is giving them more time to accomplish these necessary transactions.
