LTFRB fires contractual employee after viral counterflow video
"Abuse of authority," says Chairman Vigor Mendoza II

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has terminated the services of a contractual employee who recently went viral on social media for driving against the flow of traffic.
In a statement, LTFRB Chairperson Atty. Vigor Mendoza II said the agency acted swiftly following the incident, making it clear that such behavior has no place in public service.
“We do not condone and tolerate this kind of behavior that does not only show abuse of authority but also compromise the safety of all road users,” Mendoza said.
He stressed that government personnel are expected to set an example on the road and strictly comply with traffic laws and regulations.

“As public servants, we should be at the frontline of strictly following the law and other rules and regulations. Any attempt to use the authority that we have will certainly affect the perception of the people to their government, and I will not allow that,” he added.
The LTFRB reiterated its commitment to upholding accountability within its ranks and ensuring that its employees adhere to the highest standards of conduct.
Meanwhile, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued a Show Cause Order (SCO) against the erring LTFRB personnel, directing him to explain why he should not be charged with Reckless Driving, Driving Against Traffic, and Obstruction of Traffic, as well as why his driver’s license should not be revoked or suspended for being deemed an Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle.
The LTO said the individual’s driver’s license has been automatically suspended for 90 days pending the outcome of the investigation. In addition, the vehicle involved in the viral incident has been placed under alarm status while the agency conducts further proceedings.
