LOOK: LTO celebrates arrival of 5,000 plastic cards

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has received the first batch of plastic cards from its new supplier, Banner Plasticard, Inc., just in time for the inauguration of its new chief, Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor Mendoza II.

According to LTO, the 5,000 plastic cards will be the first delivery out of the 1,000,000 cards that will be delivered within the next 60 days.

Last week, then LTO OIC, Atty. Hector Villacorta, announced that the agency will be receiving the 5,000 cards before President Bong Bong Marcos’ second State of the Nation Address, which happened on July 24.

The LTO also added that Banner Plasticard, Inc. is expected to produce 15,000 to 30,000 cards daily within 10 days as part of its commitment to deliver 1 million cards within 60 days.

For the new batch of cards, the LTO will be prioritizing OFWs, as well as new driver’s license applicants on its list. For those who don’t have a physical card, an electronic copy or e-Driver’s License is available for viewing at LTO’s Land Transportation Management System (LTMS) portal.

New chief sworn in

Assistant Secretary, Atty. Vigor Mendoza II formally took office today after he was sworn in by Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista.

“Let’s not waste time for there is a lot that needs to be done. We are hoping to fix [issues] as soon as we can and then take it easy the next five years,” Mendoza said during a simple turnover ceremony at LTO’s headquarters in Quezon City.

Asec. Mendoza said he will extend all assistance to Secretary Bautista by addressing various concerns of the public, including the license cards shortage and motor vehicle plates backlogs.

If the tasks can be done immediately, “it must be done right away”, according to Asec. Mendoza.

“Let’s not wait 5 years, if we can do it tomorrow, why wait for next week? Let us do what we can do today,” added Mendoza.
