LOOK: Is BYD Cars PH already testing the eMAX 9 DM-i?
BYD is looking to expand its lineup of DM-i models in PH with the Tang and eMAX 9

Back in June, we found out that the Department of Energy (DOE) has officially recognized a new plug-in hybrid (PHEV) from BYD Cars Philippines that has yet to be revealed. It's called the eMAX 9 DM-i, and it's essentially the BYD Xia in other markets.
With the eMAX 9 DM-i already listed on the DOE's recognized PHEVs, it could only be a matter of time before we get to see it launched in the country. In fact, someone was able to spot what could be the upcoming MPV on Philippine roads.
Based on a recent local sighting, the yet-to-be-revealed MPV was spotted on what looks to be a toll plaza along an expressway. Despite the automaker covering the badge, it's quite clear it's the upcoming BYD eMAX 9. From the stylish grille to the sleek LED headlights, the electrified MPV is quite the dashing vehicle. Also seen are the vehicle's unique alloy wheels, which feature a multi-spoke design.

We also managed to see the MPV's rear, which gets full-width LED taillights, a distinct faux metal trim piece on the D-pillars, a massive tailgate, and what looks to be an integrated roof spoiler.
Other details about the upcoming eMAX 9 DM-i are not yet available. But based on what we've gathered before, the electrified MPV will likely come with a single electric motor that puts out 272 PS with 315 Nm of torque and will be available with two battery options, 20.4 kWh and 36.6 kWh. The system is then assisted by a 1.5L four-cylinder engine that serves as a generator for the DM-i powertrain.
With BYD Cars Philippines seemingly busy testing its latest PHEV, it looks like we can expect the Tang DM-i and the eMAX 9 DM-i to make their official debuts in the country very soon.
