Look: Diesel now cheaper than gasoline again

When fuel prices skyrocketed last week, we couldn't believe that diesel became more expensive than gasoline. This was due to a price hike that saw diesel and gasoline prices going up by PHP 13.15 and PHP 7.10 per liter, respectively. Even kerosene was not spared from last week's price hike as it received a huge PHP 10.50 price increase.

Thankfully after 11 straight weeks of non-stop oil price hikes, a major rollback in gasoline, diesel, and kerosene prices goes into effect today. With diesel and gasoline now cheaper by PHP 11.45 and PHP 5.45 per liter, accordingly, we checked out several gas stations in Metro Manila to see just how more affordable fuel is today.

Beginning with this Shell station along J.P. Rizal in Marikina, the cheapest diesel now only costs PHP 63.50 per liter. This makes Fuelsave Diesel more affordable by PHP 5.95 per liter compared to Fuelsave Gasoline. As for V-Power Diesel and V-Power Gasoline, they currently retail for PHP 68.75 and PHP 71.95 a liter.

Over to a Seaoil station along EDSA in Quezon City, a liter of diesel now only costs PHP 64.75. Meanwhile, those that need to fill up on gasoline will be happy to know that a liter is now selling for PHP 69.55.

It's also a similar story at a Phoenix gas station located along Timog Avenue in Quezon City. Like Seaoil, both diesel and gasoline prices are priced the same. The only difference is that Phoenix's 95 octane gasoline is cheaper by PHP 0.20 compared to Seaoil's 97 octane.

Last but not least is this Unioil station situated along the busy stretch of Quezon Avenue. A liter of diesel here will only cost drivers PHP 62.90 while 91 octane gasoline is selling for PHP 68.75 per liter. Go for the more expensive 95 and 97 octane gasoline, and you'll have to cough up PHP 69.50 and PHP 71.20 per liter, respectively.

Granted, the price of gasoline and diesel is still high compared to last year's pump prices. But at least the rollback will provide some relief for motorists that have been struggling for the past few weeks. Hopefully, the continued downward trend of Brent Crude Oil means we could experience more price rollbacks in the coming weeks.
