Lexus reveals next-gen LFA Concept with electric powertrain

For quite a lengthy time, Toyota Motor Corporation kept us on our toes with their next-generation halo model. We weren’t quite sure if it will have a Lexus or Toyota badge, but now the Japanese auto giant has answered – they will be making two.

One is the GR GT which will be powered by a 4.0-liter, twin-turbo hybrid V8, but the one with the L badge? Toyota’s looking to make it all electric. Making its world premiere is the Lexus LFA Concept, which is a BEV sports car study.

Basically, the LFA Concept is the Lexus Sport Concept that is now being announced anew with partial specifications and a new name.

Developed alongside the GR GT and the GR GT3 racing version, the Lexus LFA Concept is centered on three key elements - a low center of gravity, low weight with high rigidity, and the pursuit of aerodynamic performance. But with the LFA Concept, Lexus is also exploring the potential that is unique to BEVs.

Much like the GR GT, the LFA Concept has an all-aluminum body frame with a low nose and low rear deck lid defying its silhouette when viewed from the side. Size-wise, it measures 4690 mm long, 2040 mm wide, a height of just 1195 mm, and a wheelbase of 2725 mm.

Inside, the LFA Concept’s cockpit is centered around achieving the ideal driving position, to enhance the sense of car to driver unity and deeply immerse the driver in the driving experience.

For now, that would be all that Lexus would share regarding the LFA Concept. But as far as the two halo projects go, the LFA Concept and the GR GT shows that Toyota is also making a multi-pathway approach towards not just achieving zero emissions, but also in sports car performance.
