Leaked: Are we looking at Honda's answer to Raize crossover?

In the 2021 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS), Honda came up with a subcompact crossover called the Honda SUV RS Concept.

Designed by Honda R&D Asia Pacific, the crossover had all the makings of a model that could take on the likes of the Toyota Raize and Kia Stonic, to name a few. Fast forward to the present, and apparently we may not have to wait much longer for Honda's entry-level crossover.

Images have surfaced in Indonesia of what looks like a production-ready version of the SUV RS Concept. And from a design perspective, the crossover looks a bit different compared to the concept version from GIIAS and its patent images.

In its front fascia, the leaked image shows a more mature grille that looks closer to the upcoming BR-V, but it has retained the checkered pattern on top, while there's a bigger lower honeycomb grille. Also, we noticed that it's wearing an RS badge, giving out the possibility that this could be the top-spec variant of the baby Honda crossover.

The more mature look continues at the back. Previously, the concept version had wraparound taillights like the HR-V. But now, the images show the crossover wearing inverted L-shaped to the Civic sedan, with a lot less going on with the rear bumper.

Unfortunately, Honda is yet to disclose details when it comes to its powertrain. However, we won't be surprised if it gets the 1.5-liter, four-cylinder DOHC i-VTEC engine from the City and the HR-V, or the smaller 1.2-liter SOHC i-VTEC from the Brio.

The other question now is what will be the name of the baby Honda crossover? The ZR-V name has been given for the USDM HR-V in the Chinese market, and the WR-V is already taken by the GK-chassis based Jazz crossover in Latin America. So what would this new crossover's name be? We'll find out soon.
