Is this the next-generation Honda CR-V?

Honda is almost done updating its model lineup. So far, the Japanese automaker has already introduced the new Civic and the new HR-V. However, there’s one model that has yet to receive an update – the CR-V.

The current fifth-generation CR-V debuted in 2017, with a facelift introduced in 2020. After being on the market for six years, it’s about time Honda revealed the next-generation model. But the automaker has been quiet about the whole thing, with no news or teasers about the sixth-generation crossover. That all changes now.

A patent image of the next-generation CR-V has supposedly leaked online. Assuming the image is real, it does give us an idea of what the upcoming model will look like. The most obvious change between this and the current model is found at the front. There’s a large grille, slim headlights, and a trim piece that extends into each headlamp. The styling is quite similar to the design of the current Civic and HR-V.

Other noticeable details include a new hood that’s less slopping compared to the current model. Meanwhile, the bumper has been cleaned up with a large center intake and L-shape trim on the corners. Like before, black cladding runs along the lower edges of the body, and the wheel arches. Along the side, the window line has been restyled.

There are no images of the rear, but it looks like the vertical taillight design of the current model will be retained. Keen-eyed readers will also notice that the door handles now sit below the character line instead of on it.

Under the hood, expect the CR-V to use a hybrid powertrain similar to the Accord or the HR-V. The current diesel engine could also be dropped as Honda moves towards a cleaner, and not to mention, electric future.
