Is the 2024 BAIC BJ40 4x4 coming to PH?

We've already confirmed that United Asia Automotive Group Inc (UAAGI) will be bringing not one but two new brands into the country – Lynk & Co and BAIC (Beijing Automotive Group Co Ltd.). Both brands are set to make their presence felt at this year's Manila International Auto Show and they will be launching (or previewing) several new vehicles.

Based on our previous reports, we already have a good idea of what to expect from BAIC. They will likely debut the BJ60, the BJ80, and the X55 II crossover SUVs. However, there could be another vehicle on its way and this one could be their most rugged yet.

According to insider info, UAAGI is supposedly also launching the BJ40 Plus – a 4x4 body-on-frame SUV that appears to have been inspired by the likes of the Jeep Wrangler. With its macho-looking exterior, tall ride height, and 4x4 capability, the BJ40 Plus will be quite an interesting vehicle indeed.

It measures 4645mm long, 1925mm wide, 1871mm tall, and has a 2745mm wheelbase. It also has a ground clearance of 220mm, an approach angle of 37 degrees, a departure angle of 31 degrees, and a ramp angle of 23 degrees. It also has a water-wading capability of over 600mm.

Style-wise, the BJ40 Plus gets a distinct grille, angry-looking LED headlights, chunky fender flares, stylish 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 265/65 series tires, square LED taillights, a rear spare tire carrier, and a removable rear ceiling. It has a coil spring suspension with the front axle featuring an independent setup while the rear comes with a 5-link non-independent configuration.

Inside, the BJ40 Plus features a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It's also available with a 6-speaker sound system, Bluetooth and video playback connectivity, leather seats, power-adjustable front seats, a 220V power outlet, USB charging ports, and dual-zone climate control with rear vents.

Under the hood, the BJ40 Plus gets a 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 250 PS along with 350 Nm of torque. Power is then sent to a 6-speed automatic transmission along with an electronic 4WD system complete with a rear differential lock.
