Hyundai has new A-segment crossover with boxy Exter
Two engine variants include petrol and compressed natural gas options with a 5-speed manual or automatic transmission

It looks like Hyundai is out to offer a crossover from the small A-segment, right down to the midsize class.
The Korean manufacturer has expanded its lineup of crossover SUVs with the introduction of an A-segment model called the Exter. Initially being offered for the Indian market, the boxy crossover is smaller than the Creta, and even its Kia cousin, the Stonic.

A full production model has not been introduced but official images, including a few details about its specifications, are now available. The Hyundai Exter is a petrol-powered unit with an engine option that uses compressed natural gas (CNG). Both powertrains use a 1.2-liter naturally-aspirated four-pot. The gas-powered variant makes 82 PS and 114 Nm of torque and sends power to the front wheels via a 5-speed manual or automatic transmission. The model using CNG gets 69 PS and 95 Nm of torque and only has a manual transmission.
The Exter is only 3,995 mm long, which means size-wise, it's just as long as the incoming 5-door Suzuki Jimny. Hyundai gave its body wraparound cladding and underbody garnishes to look sporty and capable but the small wheels and low ground clearance make it more of a city-going model. Exterior features include split headlights with H-shaped LED graphics, large bumper intakes, skid plates, and a “floating roof” effect with a special pattern on the C-pillar. The body color on the photo is a new hue for Hyundai called Ranger Khaki.
For now, the Hyundai Exter will be available in India. The official launch and complete specifications are expected in July 2023. Details are still scarce as to where else will Hyundai offer the Exter, but says emerging markets could get the baby crossover. Do you think the Exter could be a viable addition to Hyundai's lineup in the Philippines? Let us know in the comments.
