For the longest time, the Hyundai Staria (including its predecessor the Grand Starex) has long been associated with turbo-diesel engines. With its ability to carry both cargo and people with ease, it's no wonder that Hyundai opted to give the people carrier a turbo-diesel heart. Combined with the popularity of diesel in the Philippines, it's a no-brainer for Hyundai to fit with a 2.2L turbo-diesel engine that makes 177 PS and 431 Nm of torque.

In some countries, however, it gets a 3.5-liter V6 engine as it needs to follow stricter emission laws. It makes more power with 272 PS but is slightly down on pulling power with 331 Nm. Regardless of which engine it's offered, the Hyundai Staria has to carry people and luggage with ease. And now, Hyundai has just revealed an electrified version of its popular van.

This is the 2024 Hyundai Staria Hybrid, and it packs quite an engine. Just like the recently refreshed Kia Carnival, the Staria Hybrid is fitted with a 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline inline-four that's assisted by an electric motor and battery pack. The result is a combined system output of 245 PS along with a generous 367 Nm of torque. This makes the electrified Staria deliver more pep while simultaneously emitting fewer carbon emissions.

Style-wise, the Staria Hybrid looks no different than a regular Staria apart from a new set of 18-inch alloy wheels and some blue hints inside the cabin. Speaking of the cabin, the touchscreen infotainment has been updated to show the status of the hybrid system as well as monitor the fuel consumption. But other than that, the electrified people carrier comes with the familiar interior.

With the automaker now offering a hybrid version of the Staria, could Hyundai Motor Philippines Inc (HMPH) actually bring the electrified variant of the people carrier here? Type in your comments below and let us know.
