Hyundai PH's upcoming minivan will be called Custin

There's only a week to go before Hyundai Motor Philippines launches its two all-new models – one is the Stargazer X that's basically their answer to the Xpander Cross, and the other is a minivan that HMPH aims to slot between the Staria and the Stargazer.

HMPH has yet to name the latter, as it has different nameplates depending on which market it is being sold. The minivan is called the Custo in China, while in Taiwan and Vietnam where it recently had its ASEAN debut, it's called the Custin. So which of the two nameplates will the Philippine market adopt?

Ahead of its official launch, we finally have an answer – it will be called the 2024 Hyundai Custin.

We have recently spotted the Custin parked outside an official HMPH dealer, which we assume has just taken delivery of the all-new minivan. Furthermore, it appears that other Hyundai dealerships in the country may have also received the initial batch of units. Upon a quick marketplace search, some dealerships are already accepting reservations for the all-new Custin minivan.

The all-new Custin we've spotted also gave us answers about what's underneath its short hood. The badge at the back says 1.5T, which means we can confirm for now that Hyundai will offer the minivan with a 1.5-liter, four-cylinder turbocharged engine that puts out 170 PS and 253 Nm of torque. The engine is paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission that drives the front wheels. However, we're yet to see if this will be the sole engine option.

Currently, Hyundai has assembly lines for the Custin minivan in China, Taiwan, and Vietnam. With all three being LHD markets, this gives HMPH plenty of options to source out the Custin, and hence, unit allocations and lead times could be less of an issue.
