Hyundai, Kia, Samsung wants linked cars and home appliances

Korean industry giants have collaborated to give you the convenience of accessing the functions of your vehicle in the comfort of your home, and vice versa.

Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Corporation have signed an agreement with Samsung Electronics for a Car-to-Home and Home-to-Car service partnership to enhance the connectivity between residential and mobility spaces.

Essentially, Hyundai and Kia will integrate their connected car services platform to Samsung's Internet of Things (IoT) platform called 'SmartThings'.

Under this agreement, Hyundai and Kia customers will be able to remotely control digital appliances via touch and voice commands through their cars' in-car infotainment systems. At the same time, AI speakers, TVs and smartphone apps can be used to control various vehicle functions.

Along with these features, the platform allows for over-the-air (OTA) and USB-based updates, so customers can have a seamless connectivity experience.

For now, the three Korean industry giants have not announced which vehicle will first have this feature. But nevertheless, just think of the ways this connected feature could impact our daily lives. Looks promising.
