Hyundai IONIQ 9 teased as a full-size three-row EV

Back in 2021 during the Los Angeles Auto Show, Hyundai revealed the Seven Concept. It's a three-row electric crossover SUV that's both big in size and in character. With an upright tailgate, an aerodynamic roofline, and an imposing front end, the Seven is one stylish concept EV.

Since the concept's debut three years ago, however, Hyundai has been quiet regarding its shift to a production model. Fortunately, the automaker has revealed the first teaser images of the soon-to-be-revealed production model. In addition to that, the vehicle has also received a name change.

Set to make its debut soon is the Hyundai IONIQ 9, and boy is it going to be one big EV. Billed by Hyundai to be a three-row all-electric SUV, the company claims it will mark a new milestone in the brand's unwavering commitment to electrification.

Featuring what Hyundai calls an “Aerosthetic Design”, the automaker says the IONIQ 9 has a unique blend of aerodynamic performance and aesthetic appeal. It has a single curved roofline that's complemented by a distinct beltline which highlights the IONIQ 9's immense profile. Hyundai is not yet ready to show the IONIQ 9 in its entirety but they did reveal some key exterior features about it.

For starters, the IONIQ 9 will have Parametric Pixels on its LED headlights which has become a distinct feature on every Hyundai IONIQ model. It will also have massive 20-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels which will give the EV a more stylish appearance.

Also worth mentioning are the vertical LED taillights which appear to be placed on the quarter panels. Like the concept vehicle from which the IONIQ 9 was based, it looks like Hyundai decided to carry them over to the production model. Other key features the vehicle will have include flared wheel arches, hidden door handles, and what look to be functional roof rails.

No exact powertrain details were mentioned by Hyundai. However, given that the IONIQ 9 is also underpinned by the E-GMP platform that's seeing use in the Kia EV9, we won't be surprised if it shares the same dual-motor (and single-motor) setup as its Kia sibling. That means we can expect the IONIQ 9 to have a range of over 500 km and a power output of nearly 600 PS.

With the 2024 Los Angeles Auto Show set for November, Hyundai could hold the IONIQ 9's official debut at the annual auto show.
