Honda was able to spring a surprise at last year’s Japan Mobility Show as they revived the Prelude name as a hybrid electric sports coupe.

This time, Honda has confirmed the Prelude is going into production and is bringing the concept to another part of the globe where the production model will be sold – Europe. It’s not just a simple appearance either; Honda will showcase the coupe concept at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The Prelude debuted in Europe 45 years ago and featured Honda’s most advanced technologies for five generations until the last model ceased production in 2001. As the brand enters the electrification era, the nameplate returns promising the “perfect balance of driving dynamics and fuel efficiency”.

While Honda has yet to reveal the exact specifications of the Prelude, the hybrid-electric coupe is more than likely to feature an enhanced version of Honda’s e:HEV system found in vehicles like the Civic and CR-V.

On those models, the 2.0-liter four-cylinder, Atkinson cycle engine is helped along by two synchronous electric motors that run on lithium-ion batteries. In its most powerful version so far, the unit produces 200 PS and 315 Nm of torque paired with Honda's dedicated hybrid transmission.

Considering its proportions, the Prelude could still be a front-engine, front-wheel drive coupe once it goes into production.

So far, it's only been the EU market that has been confirmed to get the Prelude. Should Honda PH offer this once it goes into production? Let us know in the comments.
