Here are the specs, features of 2022 Kia Sportage

The automotive industry may be moving away from internal combustion engines (ICEs), but Kia still believes in gasoline and diesel power. So much so that the automaker recently revealed the technical specifications of the all-new Sportage.

After revealing the first-ever images of the 2022 Sportage, Kia has now released the model's dimensions, powertrain details, and newly available technologies.

Compared to the outgoing generation, the all-new Sportage is bigger. It measures 4660mm long, 1865mm wide, 1660mm tall, and has a generous 2755mm wheelbase. This makes the fifth-generation Sportage 180mm longer, 10mm wider, with an additional 85mm wheelbase. It is, however, 5mm shorter in height compared to the fourth-generation model.

Moving over to the engines, and the Sportage is available with two turbocharged powerplants. First up is the 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline inline-four. It produces 180 PS with 265 Nm of torque and is paired with either a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Those that still prefer turbo-diesel power will be happy to know that the Sportage is also available with a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder diesel engine. It makes 186 PS with 417 Nm of torque and is exclusively available with an improved eight-speed automatic gearbox.

In the future, Kia will also introduce more eco-friendly powertrains for the all-new Sportage. These include hybrid and plug-in hybrid models that will offer a cleaner alternative to traditional ICEs. Moreover, additional gasoline and diesel variants will be launched as well near the start of sales.

Want to take the Sportage off the beaten path? The all-new model features 'Terrain Mode', which can automatically adjust the crossover's settings for optimal driving dynamics in off-road situations. There is also 'Drive Mode' available for on-road driving with four selectable settings; Comfort, Eco, Sport, and Smart.

Providing in-car infotainment is a pair of digital displays. Both the instrument panel and the touchscreen media system come with 12-inch displays. There's also a Harman Kardon sound system, a new automatic climate control touch panel, and a shift-by-wire system for the automatic gearbox models.

But perhaps the most high-tech addition in the 2022 Sportage is its in-house developed Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) technology. With it, features such as forward-collision avoidance assist (FCA), highway driving assist (HDA), blind-spot collision-avoidance assist (BCA), blind-spot view monitor (BVM), and Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA) ensure the occupants of the Sportage are safe at any speed.

The 2022 Kia Sportage is expected to go on sale later this year. As to when the Philippine market will get its hands on the all-new compact crossover, we might have to wait until Q1 or Q2 of 2022.
