GWM drops first images of Haval Raptor with 2.0L turbo

GWM had plenty to show at the 2025 Auto Shanghai. From go-anywhere 4x4s to plug-in hybrid crossovers, as well as electrified pickup trucks, the brand proved that crossovers and SUVs need not just be eco-friendly when going off-road.

More importantly, unlike most automakers, which are now focusing on electrification, GWM believes that a multi-path powertrain direction is more feasible and practical in the long run. Heck, the brand even surprised everyone last month when they revealed a 4.0L twin-turbo V8, which is expected to power a wide array of vehicles.

Now, the brand has revealed the first images of a new variant (and perhaps look) of the Haval Raptor. While GWM Philippines distributor Luxuriant Automotive Group Inc. (LAGI) already previewed the Raptor Hi4 PHEV back in 2024, there will also be an internal combustion engine (ICE) version of the go-anywhere 4x4.

That’s right, GWM just released the first images of the Haval Raptor with an ICE powertrain under the hood. Immediately grabbing our attention is the fact that it has a different exterior design. Instead of having round LED headlights, the ICE version gets rectangular units and is accompanied by a waterfall-style grille, which is also different from the horizontal grille of the plug-in hybrid. Also worth mentioning are the restyled LED taillights, which also get a rectangular look instead of the PHEV’s more rounded design.

Despite the changes, GWM kept some key design elements for the ICE version of the Haval Raptor. These include the signature boxy design and the tailgate-mounted spare tire carrier, which can also be swapped for an external cargo box. Other exterior features available include a panoramic sunroof, side steps, roof rails, and black body cladding.

Under the hood, the GWM Haval Raptor ICE will supposedly be powered by a 2.0L turbocharged inline-four that makes 238 PS. It will then be coupled to a 9-speed wet-type dual-clutch transmission and will be available with AWD.

There’s no word yet as to when GWM plans on launching the ICE version of the Haval Raptor. However, we’re curious if GWM Philippines would be able to bring both the PHEV and ICE variants of the Raptor to the local market. But with the Raptor Hi4 PHEV already homologated by the LTO earlier this year, perhaps we might see the plug-in hybrid version make its debut first.
