GIIAS 2023: Mitsubishi's B-SUV fighter is called XForce

After revealing its exterior design to the world last week, Mitsubishi Motors has officially revealed its new subcompact crossover SUV. Say hello to the 2024 Mitsubishi XForce, and it's gunning for the B-SUV market.

With its sleek and sharp exterior design remaining faithful to the XFC Concept, the all-new XForce exudes style, practicality, and high-tech features in the subcompact crossover segment. With a design concept called Silky & Solid, the XForce delivers a powerful yet athletic appearance that gives it a commanding presence on the road.

The front fascia is dominated by a pair of futuristic T-shaped LED headlights along with a bolder-looking Dynamic Shield. Meanwhile, massive 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 225/50 tires highlight the vehicle's sportier looks, as well as its generous ground clearance which we'll get to later. And just like the front fascia, the rear of the XForce gets stylish LED combination taillights that complement the space-age look of the crossover.

As mentioned before, Mitsubishi's new B-segment crossover SUV measures 4390mm long, 1810mm wide, and 1660mm tall. It also has a generous 222mm of ground clearance which is 2mm more than the already high-riding Xpander Cross. This was made possible thanks to a uniquely-tuned suspension for ASEAN roads, as well as the previously-mentioned 18-inch alloys.

Hop inside and the crossover invites passengers into a high-class-looking interior with a two-tone finish, LED ambient lighting, a raised center console, and a pair of digital displays on the dashboard. Both the seats and steering wheel are wrapped in leather which gives the XForce a classier look and feel.

On the technology front, a 12.3-inch touchscreen media display provides the necessary in-car infotainment. It offers smartphone connectivity features as well as a multi-meter display which pays homage to the Pajero. It has three digital meter displays that show the altimeter, pitch, and compass. There's also the 8-inch digital instrument panel that can be customized depending on the driver.

High-quality audio comes in the form of the Dynamic Sound Yamaha Premium. Mitsubishi claims that, unlike typical speakers, Yamaha's new sound system has a special tuning optimized for the acoustic characteristics of the cabin. The entire system consists of 8 speakers with front tweeters on the A-pillars, woofers in the front doors, and coaxial two-way speakers in the rear doors. The Yamaha sound system also has four sound systems which can be selected depending on the driver's preference. These include; Lively, Signature, Powerful, and Relaxing.

Other key features present inside the all-new XForce include 40:20:40 split rear seats, a power tailgate, USB Type-A and Type-C ports for the front & rear seats, a console box to cool drinks, a wireless charging pad, and dual-zone automatic climate control.

Under the hood of the XForce is a 1.5-liter four-cylinder, naturally-aspirated engine. Derived from the Xpander and Xpander Cross, the humble inline-four makes 105 PS at 6000 rpm and 141 Nm of torque at 4000 rpm. Power is then sent to the front wheels via CVT.

Despite being only a 2WD crossover, Mitsubishi says it comes with 4WD technology in the form of drive modes; Normal, Wet, Gravel, and Mud. It also has an Active Yaw Control which integrates with the drive system and automatically adjusts the driving force on the front left and right wheels to improve traction and avoid skidding.

Expect the all-new Mitsubishi XForce to make its way to other ASEAN markets soon, including the Philippines.
