Geely PH aims to sell 3,000 Emgrands this year
Geely still believes there is demand in the B-segment sedan market

Last week, Geely distributor Sojitz G Auto Philippines (SGAP) officially launched its B-segment sedan, the 2022 Emgrand. Set to go up against the likes of the Toyota Vios, Nissan Almera, and Honda City, it aims to disrupt the status quo by reshaping what customers can expect from a B-segment four-door.
With its upscale design, an abundance of features, and competitive pricing, Geely is confident the Emgrand will sway buyers from other brands. But just how many does the automaker plan on selling this 2022 alone?
According to Froilan Dytianquin, General Manager for Sales and Marketing at SGAP, the subcompact sedan market is still one of the largest in the auto industry. Citing an industry forecast by IHS Automotive, out of the 310,000 vehicles that are expected to be sold in the country this 2022, an estimated 74,000 units will come from B-segment sedans.

That said, Geely Philippines expects to sell 3,000 units this year. With a starting price of PHP 798,000 for the Comfort variant, the Emgrand undercuts most of the competition's mid-grade variants thanks to its wide array of standard amenities and safety features.
Aside from marketing the vehicle as budget-friendly, Geely also plans to increase its total number of dealers from 27 to 40. Should the automaker be able to add more locations in the country, this will help them achieve their target of selling 3,000 Emgrands this year. Moreover, the easing of NCR and other locations in the country to Alert Level 1 could also help them sell more units to customers.
But with the Ukraine-Russia tension and the possibility of a fuel supply shortage, will Geely be able to achieve its goals? Dytianquin says they're currently monitoring the situation. He also hopes that despite the ongoing tension, the automaker will still be able to hit its target of selling 3,000 Emgrands and expand to more locations.
Do you think Geely will be able to sell 3,000 units this year? Let us know in the comments.
