Geely gives Coolray another (aggressive) facelift

Last year, Geely revealed the 2022 Coolray facelift. Also known as the Binyue at the People’s Republic. the B-segment crossover received a noticeable makeover, particularly at the front of the vehicle.

Receiving a Starburst-like update, the Coolray gets a new mesh-type grille, a sportier bumper with a gray-painted fascia, and a restyled lower air intake. Other changes seen on the crossover include a restyled diffuser, a carbon fiber-like finish on the spoiler, new 18-inch alloy wheels, and a black-painted roof.

It’s now on sale over in China, but it appears Geely just gave their popular crossover another update. But unlike the update they revealed last July 2021, the new refresh sees the Coolray sporting a heavier facelift.

Based on these government filing images, the Coolray gets an extensive redesign. It now features a huge air intake that’s paired with a revised mesh-style grille with a red surround. It also gets slimmer and sharper LED headlights and updated bumper corners.

Perhaps getting the most drastic change on the Coolray is the rear. Unlike last year’s update, Geely took more time to make the rear more unique. Thanks to the revamp, it gets new thin LED taillights that are accompanied by a light bar that runs the entire width of the tailgate. Speaking of the tailgate, the automaker also replaced the license plate holder lower to the bumper. Last but not least are the new L-shaped reflectors that add to the crossover’s sportier looks and a slightly tweaked rear bumper.

Other changes Geely made to the Coolray include new alloy wheels, additional red accents on the rear diffuser, a smaller rear foglight, a red-painted lip spoiler at the front, updated side mirrors, as well as a new tailgate spoiler.

Aside from giving the Coolray a major makeover, the new update will reportedly see the crossover get a new engine under the hood. Instead of the tried-and-tested 1.5-liter three-cylinder turbo, the Coolray will supposedly get a slightly more powerful 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbo. It’s said that it will put out 181 PS which is slightly more than what the three-cylinder makes. Torque output, on the other hand, is still a mystery so we’ll have to wait until Geely officially reveals it.

While the previous facelift already looked aggressive, the more aggressive looks of the new update really do bring out the Coolray’s sportier nature. The only question now is, will this be the updated Coolray the Philippines will get in the near future? We’ll find out once Geely distributor Sojitz G Auto Philippines (SGAP) reveals the first teaser images of the Coolray facelift.
