Future proof: Porsche Zuffenhausen plant undergoes extensive upgrade
Porsche upgrades Zuffenhausen production plant for electrified future

As the automotive landscape turns to electrification, manufacturers are also retooling their factories to produce electrified vehicles alongside their traditional ICE models.

One of those manufacturers is Porsche. Currently, the sports car brand is making extensive reconstruction measures and extensions to its main Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen plant in Germany to make "smarter" production processes for its next-generation two-door sports cars.
“The conversion measures will enable increased efficiency, the highest quality standards, and mixed production of combustion-engine and electric sports cars. This will see us start a new chapter in sports car production in terms of the smart factory”, said Albrecht Reimold, Member of the Executive Board for Production and Logistics at Porsche AG.

Among those upgrades include the extension of the production line area for Porsche's two-door sports cars at the main plant, the added use of automated guided vehicles (AGVs) for a more variable production process, newly integrated quality checkpoints, and a new high-bay rack to supply the assembly plant with various vehicle components.
Furthermore, the engine assembly plant that has been put up for the V8 combustion engines of the Panamera and Cayenne has also been retooled to integrate the assembly of electric motors for the Porsche Macan EV.

Overall, Porsche's 250-million Euro upgrade for its Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen plant is intended to increase the capacity and flexibility in its production processes, especially since its goal for 2030 is to have more than 80% of its vehicles fully electric.
