Fully-electric Range Rover coming to PH around Q1 2025

Back in late 2021, Land Rover launched the all-new Range Rover flagship SUV. Now on its fifth generation, the full-size luxury SUV is available in both standard and long-wheelbase (LWB) versions which are now available with third-row seating for the first time. This was made possible thanks to the new Modular Longitudinal Architecture (AKA MLA-Flex).

While the new architecture allowed Land Rover to make the Range Rover come with three rows of seats, it also lets the automaker install new electrified powertrains in the flagship vehicle. In fact, it's available with new plug-in hybrid (PHEV) engines that give it up to 510 PS and 700 Nm of torque. More importantly, the PHEV Range Rover can travel up to 113 km without a drop of fuel when fully charged.

We already have the fifth-generation Range Rover in the country after it was unveiled to the public last year. But with a Defender EV set to arrive before the decade ends, will there also be a Range Rover EV in the future? Land Rover actually confirmed this right after launching the all-new Range Rover and even announced that it's coming in 2024. But the bigger question now is, will we see it arrive in the Philippine market soon?

According to Chris Ward, the president of Coventry Motors, it will be arriving in the Philippines two years from now. Aside from announcing that a Defender EV will be revealed before the decade ends, the executive shared that the Range Rover EV is slated to arrive in the Philippines sometime in Q1 of 2025.

The exact details of the upcoming electric Range Rover are still a mystery. However, Ward mentioned that the MLA-Flex architecture has been designed from the start to accept electric motors and battery packs. This means engineers will only need to make minor modifications to install the electrified hardware.

As to how much power the Range Rover EV could produce, Land Rover could borrow or derive its all-electric powertrain from the Jaguar I-Pace. In its most powerful form, the electric Jaguar is capable of cranking out 400 PS and nearly 700 Nm of torque. But given that the Range Rover serves as the flagship vehicle, we won't be surprised if the automaker will be able to extract more power for the luxury SUV.

With Jaguar set to become a fully-electric brand by 2025, does this mean Land Rover will follow suit? Not exactly, but Land Rover does plan on releasing around 6 EVs by 2024. With that, we can expect the company to expand its EV lineup beyond the aforementioned Range Rover EV while still offering ICE and electrified vehicles.

With 2025 still a long way to go, all we can do for now is wait until Land Rover releases new details about it or check out for possible leaks regarding the electrified SUVs.
