Fuel prices in the Metro look like report cards

The last time diesel became more expensive than gasoline was back in April 2022. At that time, the average price was between PHP 76 to over PHP 77, depending on where you were in Metro Manila. Prices eventually went down as the global oil market eased despite the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

But after the European Union (EU) decided to ban the importation of Russian oil, the price of fuel literally skyrocketed to new heights. This resulted in filling stations raising the price of diesel by PHP 6.55 per liter and gasoline by PHP 2.70 per liter.

With the huge price increase, diesel in Metro Manila is once again more expensive than gasoline. But just how pricier is it over gasoline products? To find out, we went around several stations in Quezon City to see the average price of fuel.

Starting with this Shell station along EDSA near the National Printing Office Road, their most expensive diesel is selling for PHP 88.05 while their regular diesel is at PHP 81.85. Meanwhile, their cheapest gasoline is retailing for PHP 82.30 per liter.

Over to a Seaoil station also situated along EDSA, their diesel fuel is available for PHP 82.40 per liter, making it PHP 0.25 pricier than their 97 octane gasoline which is selling for PHP 82.15. It's also a similar story at a Petron station as a liter of Turbo Diesel will cost you PHP 84.15. On the other hand, a liter of XCS gasoline will net you PHP 82.40.

Last but not least is this Phoenix station along Timog Avenue. Out of all the outlets we visited, this is the one that sells the cheapest diesel at PHP 81.15. Their most expensive gasoline which is Premium 95, is slightly more expensive at PHP 81.45 a liter.

With fuel prices in Metro Manila now averaging PHP 80 and above, we advise motorists to manage their fuels as efficiently as possible.
