Former MMDA Chairman, Marikina Mayor, Bayani Fernando dies at 77
Bayani Fernando was the man behind the Metro Gwapo campaign of MMDA

Many of us remember that there was a time when Metro Manila was filled with the color pink – bus stops, sidewalks, overpasses, and even urinals – which was actually part of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority’s “Metro Gwapo” program under the chairmanship of Bayani Fernando.
Known to many simply as “BF”, Fernando passed away earlier. He was 77.
A mechanical engineer by profession, Fernando, during his tenure with the MMDA from 2002-2009, used scientific and practical approaches in his quest to solve the problems of Metro Manila. A man of few words, Fernando is known to be a workaholic and a disciplinarian among MMDA employees.
BF also served as the Mayor of Marikina from 1992-2001, and the city’s 1st District Representative from 2016-2022. He was noted to be the main driving force who turned the former municipality into a bustling and model city where Marikina stands today.
We at Autoindustriya.com extend our deepest sympathies to the family of Bayani Fernando.
