Ford PH recalls Everest, Ranger, Mustang over Takata airbag issue

The Takata airbag saga continues, as Ford Philippines issued a safety recall on approximately 32,900 units of their Everest, Ranger, and Mustang models fitted with faulty airbag inflators.

For the record, the worldwide Takata airbag recall dates back to 2013. Several automakers were supplied with airbag inflators that could deploy with excessive internal pressure when activated. In the event the airbag is deployed, the inflator casing could rupture and send debris to the occupants once the airbag is deployed.

As for Ford, the affected models for this latest recall are the 2006-2014 model Everest SUV, 2004-2011 Ranger pick-up truck, and the 2005-2014 Mustang sports car. For owners of the said Ford models, they can check if their units are affected by going to Ford Philippines' vehicle recall website and type-in their Vehicle Identification Numbers (VIN).

In addition, customers can call Ford Group Philippines Customer Relations Center (CRC) at telephone no. (02) 8866 9408 or 1-800-10736-3673, e-mail them at emailus@ford.com, or simply visit their nearest Ford dealer for further assistance.

Ford also says the affected owners can have their vehicles repaired at any Ford dealership in the Philippines, with the repairs performed at no cost to the owners.

While this may come as a bit of an inconvenience to affected owners, let's all remember that it's better to be safe than sorry.
