FL5 Honda Civic Type R is Red Dot 2023 winner
Civic e-HEV, Type R and two motorcycles take Product Design wins in 2023 Red Dot Award

They say, ‘Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.’ While that may be the case when you are checking out babes or hunks on the beach (whatever your proclivity is) when it comes to industrial design, one name stands out as a top judge of beauty, the Red Dot Design Award.
Of the 51 categories for Product Design awards up for grabs this year, four Honda products got the nod from the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen in Essen, Germany. Two motorcycles and two sedans from Honda took home a Red Dot Design Award each after they were judged based on nine criteria, including the degree of innovation, functionality, durability, and ergonomics.

Recently launched in the Philippines, the Civic Type R was a big winner with its ‘Ultimate Sport 2.0’ design concept developed by Honda to pursue ‘ultimate pure sports performance.’ It has a low and wide body, a large grille that increases its cooling capability, and aerodynamic exterior equipment that lets it cut through turbulent air for a more stable ride and high fuel efficiency.
Another winner was the Civic e:HEV. The body of this hybrid model has a low beltline with horizontal-oriented styling that connects the front end to the rear to express the vehicle’s dynamic and sporty drive.

The two other units from Honda to receive Red Dot Design Awards include the XL750 Transalp (European version), a dual-sport motorcycle sporting an ‘adventure style’ and has a chic windscreen offering protection and aerodynamic performance, and the CB750 Hornet (sold outside Japan), a high-performance middleweight sports model with a ‘sport naked style that combines power and agility in a lightweight, compact body.
If you are looking for a good reason to buy the Civic or better yet, the Type R, this recognition is as good as any. I do not know if the wife will consider it valid, but it is worth a shot.
