First-ever BMW M3 Touring will arrive very soon
BMW M3 Touring teaser shows the high-performance wagon is coming soon

BMW will soon be expanding its high-performance M lineup, but it won’t be with an all-new model. Instead, it will be a derivative of the current-generation F8X series M3 and M4. For the first time, the German marque will introduce a production-model M3 Wagon / Touring. Best of all, it’s almost here.
The automaker recently released a new video on Youtube showcasing the M3 and the M4 lineup in various configurations. It’s only at the end does BMW tease the performance wagon. The M3 Touring in the video is still covered in camouflage, but it does give us a better idea of what it will look like once revealed.
It’s no surprise the M3 Touring doesn’t look much different from the M3 sedan on sale today, at least from the front. The wagon features the signature vertical grille, aggressive bumper, and headlights. The same can be said about the front and rear fenders which have been pumped to fit the wider wheels and tires. The video did not give us a glimpse of the rear end, but expect it to look similar to the current 3 Series Touring paired with a more aggressive bumper and the signature quad exit exhaust.
There’s no word yet about the powertrain, but expect the M3 Touring to use the same engine as the sedan and coupe. For reference, the M3 and M4 use a twin-turbo 3.0-liter straight-six that produces 510 horsepower and 650 Nm torque with the Competition package. Expect it to be paired with all-wheel drive and an 8-speed automatic gearbox. Rear-wheel drive and a manual gearbox option could also be available.
The upcoming M3 Touring won’t be BMW’s first-ever M wagon. The automaker also built the E34 M5 Touring, which is the original fast wagon, followed by the E61 M5 Touring. No other M Touring models were produced. There was also the E46 M3 Touring, but that is a one-off prototype.
Given the popularity of high-performance wagons today such as Audi’s RS Avant lineup, do you think the BMW M3 Touring will be as successful? Let us know what you think.
