Ferrari's imagination runs wild with Vision Gran Turismo hypercar

Ferrari has just revealed a powerful single-seater that is set to dominate the virtual world of Gran Turismo.

Say hello to the Ferrari Vision Gran Turismo, a purpose-built closed-wheel concept created specifically for the virtual motorsport world. Part of Ferrari's 75^th anniversary, the Vision Gran Turismo has its roots firmly in Maranello's racing tradition and was inspired by the brand's Sports Prototypes of the 1960s and 1970s.

Penned by Ferrari Centro Stile under the direction of Flavio Manzoni, it features dramatic proportions and futuristic lines that embody the DNA masterpieces of race cars like the 330 P3 and the 512 S. The (digital) bodyshell was conceived around the idea of a speed form with very geometric and sharp angular lines that also feature a very organic shape. It also comes with wide fenders that protrude from the body, highlighting the vehicle's sharp and muscular look. Meanwhile, the front end and tail feature ultra-slim LED lighting units.

At the heart of the Vision Gran Turismo concept is the same 120-degree 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 that can be found in the 296 GTB, 296 GTS, and 296 GT3. But since there are no technical regulations in the digital realm, Ferrari was able to extract more power from the six-cylinder engine. The Prancing Horse claims it cranks out an impressive 1,030 PS along with 900 Nm of torque which is more than enough to propel this particular Ferrari to speeds past 300 km/h.

Providing extra oomph is a trio of electric motors that produce a combined 326 PS. The first two electric motors are mounted to the front wheels while the third motor is placed at the rear axle. While Ferrari did release the combined horsepower output, the brand did say that the hybrid system delivers a total torque output of 1,100 Nm.

Power is then sent to the wheels via an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission. Since the vehicle benefits from AWD, Ferrari says the Vision Gran Turismo can sprint from 0 – 100 km/h in less than 2 seconds, 0 – 200 km/h in under 5 seconds, and reach a top speed in excess of 350 km/h.

Complementing the powerful V6 hybrid motor is a unique suspension setup that is specifically designed to keep the tires planted on the pavement. Not only does this allow for the vehicle to maintain contact patch to the road, but it also means maximum torque is sent to the wheels for maximum traction.

Players and enthusiasts that wish to drive the Vision Gran Turismo will be happy to know that they will be able to use the car starting December 23, 2022, in Gran Turismo 7 via an update. With the holidays just around the corner, this is probably one of the best gifts Ferrari has given to its fans.
