Expect faster RFID lanes in SCTEX this year

Motorists visiting the areas of Central Luzon will soon experience faster queues in RFID lanes once they pass through the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX).

That is after the NLEX Corporation has announced they are set to complete SCTEX's programmed system upgrade within the year.

The PHP 162-million project started in 2020, with which the corporation concentrated on upgrading the radio frequency identification (RFID) system and its network switches. The upgrade has an early detection feature, an automatic license plate recognition, and allows contactless card reading which facilitates faster and more accurate toll transactions.

In addition, other toll equipment like the toll fare and lane status indicators, loop detectors, plus the traffic control gate and automatic vehicle classification devices were also part of the said system upgrade aside from their usual pavement repair programs.

“These comprehensive and integrated enhancements are part of our goal to serve our motorists more efficiently. We always ensure that we continually upgrade our system and equipment to deliver convenient and reliable service to our motorists”. said NLEX Corporation president and General Manager J. Luigi L. Bautista.

While we're still a long way toward achieving the speed and efficiency of Japan's tollways, SCTEX's toll system upgrades are definitely a welcome step in the right direction.
