EDSA Timog Flyover Southbound reopens July 25

If you’re one of the motorists greatly affected by the closure of the EDSA Timog Flyover Southbound, we have some good news for you.

After it was closed to traffic last June 25 for a month-long repair, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), together with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), has announced that the southbound direction of the flyover will be reopened to the public on July 25, 2022, 5:00 PM.

During a press briefing at the MMDA headquarters in Makati City, DPWH District Engineer Edward Santos shared that the major repairs on the flyover are mostly done and have already been finished ahead of schedule. This comes after the DPWH found cracks forming on the flyover’s structure last month.

The repair works were originally slated only to last for only 1 week. But since there were more damages than expected as well as the fact that they cannot use heavy equipment to repair the damaged infrastructure, they had to close it for 1 month.

Aside from announcing the reopening of the EDSA Timog Flyover Southbound, MMDA Officer-In-Charge Director Baltazar Melgar said that road and sidewalk clearing operations will continue across Metro Manila. This is to address the expected influx of vehicles due to the return of face-to-face classes in November 2022. Combined with the reopening of the flyover, the MMDA wants to ensure that the major roadways will be able to accommodate a much larger number of vehicles in the coming months.

With less than 2 weeks to go before the MMDA actually lets vehicles cross the southbound direction of the EDSA Timog Flyover, motorists will have to be patient and continue using alternate routes until then.
