DPWH plans more bridges, expressways in Metro Manila

Don't be surprised to see more infrastructures being constructed in Metro Manila in the next few years. The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will continue to improve mobility in the metro, by building more bridges and expressways.

DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan said that construction and development in the National Capital Region (NCR) will include five or six new bridges across the Pasig River.

“As far as the infrastructure program is concerned, we will continue with the construction of more bridges across Pasig River and Marikina River so that the mobility will be enhanced from north to south sectors because there are just but a few bridges connecting north and south sector,” said Bonoan.

Aside from building more bridges, the government also plans to build more expressways that would lead towards the other areas of Metro Manila. According to Bonoan, there are already several projects in line. This includes an expressway that is going to be developed in the eastern corridor of Metro Manila going through Pasig, Cainta, and all the way to Bulacan.

Another expressway that will most likely be included in the list is the Southern Access Link Expressway Project (SALEX) which was officially signed earlier this year by the Department of Transportation and San Miguel Corporation (SMC). The SALEX project will pave the way for the start of construction of the four sections of the aforementioned expressway. The segments will include the C3-R10 Extension, Shoreline Expressway, Quirino Extension, and Buendia (Gil Puyat Avenue) Extension.

Bonoan also added that the extension of the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) going to Lucena City and the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX) to Tagaytay City are underway. Last but not least, the “Build, Build, Build” programs first initiated by the previous administration will continue per President Ferdinand 'Bong Bong' Marcos Jr. during his first State of The Nation Address (SONA) last Monday.

With more and more projects to be constructed, hopefully, these infrastructures will help free-up mobility in Metro Manila.
