DPWH: Binondo-Intramuros Bridge on track for April opening
Aside from benefitting 30,000 motorists, the bridge also has dedicated pathways for pedestrians and cyclists

Motorists who frequently drive from Intramuros to Binondo (and vice versa) will be able to cut their travel time significantly thanks to a new bridge that is set to open very soon. Aptly named the Binondo-Intramuros Bridge, the Department of Public Works & Highways (DPWH) announced last January that it could be open to the public by Holy Week this April.

Two months later, the agency reveals that they're just about ready to open the 680-linear meter bridge. This was confirmed by DPWH Secretary Roger G. Mercado who said that after years of hard work, the project is already nearing the finish line.
According to DPWH Unified Project Management Office (UPMO) Operations head Emil K. Sadain, the Binondo-Intramuros bridge is set to open on schedule. Currently, workers are busy with the access ramps on both ends of the bridge. They're also installing inner and outer guard rails, light posts, repainting of steel components, and other miscellaneous activities.

The two-way, four-lane bridge is set to benefit around 30,000 motorists daily. Plus, it will also have provisions for cyclists and pedestrians. The agency mentioned that it has dedicated pathways for pedestrians, joggers, and even cyclists. The DPWH added that the soon-to-open bridge might also attract tourists that wish to see the unique basket-handle tied steel arch of the Binondo-Intramuros Bridge.

With the project already over 90% complete, we certainly cannot wait for the bridge to be finished and opened this coming Holy Week.
