DOTr: 671 drivers given 90-day suspension during Holy Week

Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon voiced his disappointment over the high number of traffic violations during the recent Holy Week break. He announced the suspension of over 600 driver’s licenses, citing a significant number of these suspensions were from road accidents and drug-related offenses.

“We are sending a strong message to everyone, especially to those operating Public Utility Vehicles – buses, jeepneys, and other PUVs, we will not tolerate this,” said Sec. Dizon. “And to those who are driving now, please straighten up if you don’t want to lose your livelihood.”

According to the Land Transportation Office (LTO), 671 driver’s licenses were suspended, of which 574 were from drivers involved in road crash incidents that resulted in injuries and deaths, while the remaining 97 were drivers of PUVs who tested positive for illegal drugs by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

The LTO also said that it has revoked the driver’s license of the ELS Bus Company driver caught in a viral video overspeeding on the way to La Union.
