Dark Mode: Honda Civic Type R interior package trades red for black suede
Honda Civic Type R Racing Black Package revealed at 2025 Tokyo Auto Salon

The Honda Civic Type R, throughout its many generations, has gone through a lot of evolutionary changes. From having just 3 doors and a high-revving VTEC powerplant in the EK9, the latest FL5 has five doors with a turbocharged VTEC engine under the hood.

Despite all that, there has always been a staple throughout its lifetime – the interior always came with bright red seats from the factory. But not anymore for 2025, at least for the Japanese market.
Honda has revealed the Civic Type R Racing Black Package at the 2025 Tokyo Auto Salon, where the red suede has been switched out for black suede upholstery. The color substitution applies to the seats, the interior carpet, and even the floor mats.

Black suede has also made it to the FL5’s dashboard to cut down on glare, while the shiny trim on the climate control knobs has also been darkened along with the vent stalks. To give a bit of contrast to the dark cabin, there’s a touch of light gray on the interior stitching. A few interior feature additions include wireless charging, as well as a new auto-dimming rearview mirror.

The Racing Black Package does not come with any additional performance mods for the Civic Type R, but it adds a little over JPY 1 million (PHP 380,000) on top of the Civic Type R’s price tag in the Japanese market. That’s about the equivalent cost of having the bright red interior deep cleaned and detailed about 10 times. Worth it? Or not?
