Could this be the 2021 Nissan X-Trail?

Nine months ago, Nissan revealed the next-generation Rogue for the North American market. Despite being called 'Rogue', the stylish crossover is essentially the all-new X-Trail. However, Nissan has yet to officially reveal the next-generation X-Trail.

Well, it looks like someone spoiled the surprise for Nissan. Pictures of what appears to be the 2021 X-Trail have been now leaked online. Posted on Instagram, the purported images show what looks like the Chinese-spec X-Trail. Assuming the photos are accurate, the crossover will not look different from the Rogue.

From the front, rear, and side, the X-Trail in question looks very similar to the US-spec Rogue. Both get the two-tier headlight design, wider V-Motion front grille, five-spoke alloy wheels, black body cladding, new wraparound LED taillights, and an updated tailgate. Perhaps the only difference seen on the X-Trail is its lack of amber corner lights which is standard on the Nissan Rogue. However, that could be due to vehicle regulation differences between the US and China.

Pictures of the X-Trail's interior are not yet available. However, we won't be surprised if it will look similar to the one in the Rogue. With that, we can expect the crossover to have a new three-spoke steering wheel, digital instrument panel, a free-standing touchscreen infotainment system, leather upholstery, and a revised center console with an electro-mechanical gear selector.

Engine options for the 2021 X-Trail still remain a mystery. Over in China, the crossover will supposedly be powered by a 1.5-liter, three-cylinder VC-Turbo engine. Power is rated at 200 PS with 300 Nm of torque and is paired to a CVT. As for the ASEAN version, the X-Trail could still come with either a 2.0-liter or a 2.5-liter naturally-aspirated motors. Both are likely paired to a CVT.

With Nissan apparently gearing up for the debut of the X-Trail in China, we might not have to wait long before other countries in Asia get their hands on the new crossover. The only question now is, when will the Philippine market actually get it?
