Could the 2024 Chevrolet Equinox make sense in PH?

The bow-tie brand is gearing up to launch an all-new crossover in the form of the 2024 Chevrolet Trax. Set to return in the Philippines after a brief hiatus, the next generation Trax gets a sleeker appearance, a more dynamic-looking interior, and a new 1.2-liter turbocharged engine.

With the Tracker and Trailblazer set to get another sibling, Chevrolet Philippines wants to offer a wider range of crossovers to a broader range of customers. But could the bow-tie brand have more space for another crossover in the 2024 Equinox?

After receiving a new look for the 2021 model year, Chevrolet is preparing to launch the redesigned 2024 Equinox in the PRC. Before its official debut, images of the said crossover have already been revealed via China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

Like the new Trailblazer, the 2024 Equinox features a similar face with its prominent dual-port grille and two-tier headlight design. It gets thin LED daytime running lights (DRLs) at the top while the lower section houses the actual headlights. On the other hand, the rear comes with inverted L-shaped LED taillights and a tailgate that features a trapezoidal recess.

Over to the side and it appears Chevrolet couldn't help borrowing some styling cues from Land Rover. With its squared wheel arches, a revamped greenhouse with a rising roofline, redesigned quarter glass panels, and more muscular rear quarter fenders, the Equinox gets a more rugged-looking body for its latest redesign.

Size-wise, the Equinox will reportedly measure 4653mm long, 1902mm wide, 1710mm tall, and will have a 2730mm wheelbase. Side-by-side with the Trailblazer and the 2024 Equinox is longer by 253mm, wider by 92mm, and taller by 54mm. Its wheelbase is longer by around 90mm which translates to more legroom.

Under the hood, the 2024 Equinox will supposedly come with a 1.5-liter turbocharged inline-four. It makes 173 PS although torque figures are not yet available. Transmission choices also remain a mystery, although based on what international markets get, they might be paired with a 6-speed or 9-speed automatic gearbox.

With no definite date yet as to when Chevrolet will officially reveal it in China, we may have to wait a while before the big reveal.
