Comeback: Mercedes-Benz teases all-new G-Class Cabriolet
After a brief hiatus, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class Cabriolet is coming back

Believe it or not, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class used to be available as a cabriolet. First revealed alongside the hardtop versions in 1979, those who wanted a soft-top version of the 4x4 could get one until 2013, when the cabriolet was quietly discontinued.
The soft-top variant then made a brief comeback in 2018 as a special edition model for the previous generation G-Class dubbed the Landaulet. Apart from the fact that only 99 examples were ever made, the Mercedes-Maybach G 650 Landaulet came with a bi-turbo 6.0L V12, portal axles for better ground clearance, and massive 22-inch tires.
Now, Mercedes-Benz has decided to bring back the open-top G-Class after it revealed the first teaser images of the all-new G-Class Cabriolet.

The automaker has been busy conducting dynamic road and test track trials of the latest G-Class Cabriolet in Austria. The prototype versions are being put through rigorous real-world test drives by engineers, as they gather comprehensive data to ensure its open-top driving experience is promising and unparalleled.
In the future, engineers will bring the G-Class Cabriolet to Sweden, where it will undergo demanding winter testing. With icy temperatures and snowy landscapes, the driving dynamics, robustness, and reliability will be thoroughly proven in wintry conditions.
Specifics about the G-Class Cabriolet’s soft-top have yet to be revealed. However, we won’t be surprised if it is available in various colors and durable materials. Given the G-Class’ premium pedigree, the lucky few who will be able to buy such a vehicle will have plenty of customization options.

Powertrain details have also not yet been revealed, although the G 63 4.0L bi-turbo V8 will most likely be available. Other engines, such as the G500/G550 3.0L turbocharged inline-six and the G450 d turbo-diesel straight-six, will likely be offered as well.
We're keeping our fingers crossed that Mercedes-Benz holds the official launch soon.
