Chevrolet reveals 2023 Aveo hatch and sedan

Back before Chevrolet Philippines used to sell the Sail, there was the Aveo. Launched in the Philippines around the mid-2000s, this was the bow-tie's attempt at the subcompact market. Initially available as a hatchback, it was also available as a sedan and saw some moderate success in the country.

After the first generation, it was renamed the Sonic and received a dramatic redesign. With a sportier look complete with a revamped interior, the hatchback/sedan by Chevrolet became quite a popular vehicle during its time. Sadly, it wasn't long for this world as it was discontinued around 2015, ultimately being replaced by the Sail which was also axed just a few years ago.

Despite its rather short stint in the Philippine market, the Aveo is still around. In fact, the third generation was just recently launched in Mexico. That's right, say hello to the 2023 Chevrolet Aveo, and boy did it get a glow-up.

Still available either as a five-door hatch or four-door sedan, the all-new Aveo is now a product of the SAIC-GM-Wuling joint venture. Both body styles feature a similar front fascia design that's dominated by a prominent grille with a chrome centerpiece. It's then accompanied by pair of eye-catching headlights with LED daytime running lights.

Like the front fascia, both the hatch and sedan feature a similar taillight and rear quarter design. In fact, if you squint your eyes, the rear of the all-new Aveo appears to resemble older generations of the Audi A3. However, the hatchback comes with a sportier rear bumper while the sedan gets a more conservative design.

We have yet to see the 2023 Aveo's entire dashboard. However, Chevrolet did show a glimpse of it with a free-standing 8-inch touchscreen infotainment that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also gets sporty analog gauges on the instrument cluster, manual air-conditioning, and minimalist aircon vents.

Under the hood, the 2023 Aveo is powered by a 1.5-liter naturally-aspirated four-cylinder engine. It makes a humble 99 PS with 143 Nm of torque and can be mated to either a 6-speed manual transmission or a CVT with 6 simulated gear ratios.

Despite the Aveo still getting another generation, we think it's unlikely to make its way here. Chevrolet Philippines has moved on from the passenger car market and has shifted its focus to the more popular crossover SUV market. But who knows?
