Chevrolet drops an awesome 2023 Colorado ZR2 teaser

When you check out the Chevrolet Philippines website, you don’t see the Colorado model line being offered. You actually find it in the Other Models section and, only the previous generation is offered. In the local pick-up truck market, the American brand seems to have folded to the likes of the Toyota Hilux, Nissan Navara, Isuzu D-Max, Mitsubishi Strada, and the Ford Ranger.

That's not surprising given that Chevrolet's parent company General Motors (GM) shuttered operations in Southeast Asia two years ago. This resulted in Chevrolet Philippines losing two of its best-selling models, the Trailblazer PPV and the aforementioned Colorado pick-up truck.

Across the Pacific, however, the USDM Colorado is still going strong and Chevrolet is gearing up to reveal the most capable version yet. It's the 2023 Colorado ZR2, and it will come with plenty of off-road goodies.

Set to be revealed on July 28, 2022, the upcoming truck is seen in the teaser video galavanting across the desert. While we don't see the pick-up in its entirety just yet, Chevrolet showed off its off-road prowess by kicking up dust and going fast in the dirt. And since it will have the ZR2 badge, it might use the GM GMT31XX platform.

This means that it could get a 3.6-liter V6 gas or a 2.8-liter four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine. The V6 is estimated to make around 308 PS and 372 Nm of torque while the diesel delivers 181 PS and 500 Nm of torque. There is a third engine option and it may come in the ZR2 variant. The ZR2 model may use a smaller turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine. This powertrain will produce 310 PS and 569 Nm of torque.

The video also showed the truck with a more rugged exterior which means an AEV version might not be too far off. Based on what we saw so far, the truck will get a bull-bar along with a blacked-out grille. A more linear DRL can also be found on top of the slim headlights which makes for a more aggressive look. The brand’s big bold name is right smack in the middle of the rear tailgate with new taillights flanking it. There is also a sports bar visible on this particular model. Most importantly, the truck looks lifted and has off-road wheels and tires. 

More details will follow as the truck will be launched next month. While we won't be expecting Chevrolet to bring the USDM Colorado (or the ZR2) locally, we still cannot wait to see what the kitted-up pick-up truck will look like once it's fully revealed.
