Chery wants Shark 6 rival with KP31 diesel PHEV concept
Chery KP31 concept features a diesel plug-in hybrid powertrain, with production version coming Q4 2026

First, it was BYD with the Shark 6, then Jetour with the F700. Now, it’s Chery’s turn to make some noise and dip its toes in the plug-in hybrid pickup segment.
The Chinese manufacturer unveiled the KP31 PHEV pickup concept in Australia. And unlike its Chinese rivals, Chery chose the diesel route for its electrified truck concept.

On the outside, the KP31 concept measures 5610 mm long, 1920 mm wide, and 1925 mm tall, but Chery says the production version will be slightly shorter at 5450 mm.
In the looks department, the KP31 has Chery proudly spelled out on its front grille with circular LED headlights, while the body has an upright shape and is outfitted with things like fender flares, all-terrain tires, and a bed rack with recovery tracks.

The KP31 features a 2.5L turbodiesel paired to electric motors, which Chery claims will offer class-leading thermal efficiency at 47%, 30% quieter, and 10% more efficient than a typical diesel powertrain. Horsepower and torque figures are not yet available, along with the range.

That said, Chery won’t keep (at least) the Australian market waiting too long for the KP31 production version, as they said they plan to launch the model by Q4 2026. As for our market, we may have to wait for more developments in the coming months if the model will be offered in the country.
