"Cheapest" Lamborghini Huracan in PH is with Customs

It seems the most affordable Lamborghini has arrived in the Philippines. With an estimated retail price of PHP 14 million, this particular Huracan Performante is significantly cheaper than the brand new units that Lamborghini Philippines sells.

On average, brand new Huracans usually retail for so much more at the local dealership; the number usually starts at 2. Prices of gray market units, on the other hand, vary greatly.

Unfortunately, the “cheapest” Huracan in the country is not for sale (at least not yet). That's because the Bureau of Customs (BOC) seized it last January 25, 2022. According to the agency, the exotic sports car was shipped from Malaysia and was declared to contain a brand new vehicle. However, upon checking by the BOC, they found that the “brand new” vehicle is a used Lamborghini Huracan Performante instead.

The BOC is now investigating how the vehicle was brought in and declared brand new when it's actually a used vehicle. Now that it is under the custody of the BOC, does this mean the Huracan will be crushed and destroyed? Not exactly.

Last month, the BOC auctioned off several smuggled sports cars instead of destroying them. These included a 2001 Porsche Boxster, 2001 Mercedes-Benz SLK350, 2001 Mercedes-Benz SLK55, 2011 Mercedes-Benz E220, and the infamous 2008 Ferrari F430 Scuderia. Unfortunately, no bidders showed up during the BOC's first-ever auction of 'hot cars'. However, the agency is not giving up and plans to hold another auction event in the future to raise pandemic funds.

With the BOC now looking to auction off smuggled vehicles instead of destroying them for the sake of generating funds for the pandemic, does this mean the “cheapest” Huracan will also be auctioned off? After witnessing the agency crush smuggled vehicles before, we certainly hope that the BOC continues this new approach.
