CCLEX goes full RFID starting Oct 1, 2022

Earlier this year, the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) was officially opened to the public. Motorists who need to get from Metro Cebu to the town of Cordova in Mactan Island (and vice versa) can now get to their destinations faster and easier.

Until today, the expressway collected toll fees via cash or electronic means by way of RFID tags. This applies to vehicles and motorcycles that wish to cross the 8.9-km expressway. However, starting October 1, 2022, the CCLEX will switch to RFID toll fee collection only.

This was recently confirmed by Cebu Cordova Link Expressway Corporation (CCLEC) president & general manager Allan G. Alfon. This means the remaining cash lanes on CCLEX will be converted into exclusive RFID lanes. CCLEX has a total of 10 lanes, four of which still accept cash payments to cater to motorists who have yet to get an RFID tag for their vehicles.

But with only three weeks left before the complete rollout of electronic toll collection, CCLEC encourages motorists who already have RFID to reload as soon as possible. On the other hand, CCLEC also urged motorists who have yet to get RFIDs to make the switch for a faster and more seamless driving experience along the expressway.

“Our transition to full contactless toll payment is aimed at providing a more efficient expressway experience to our road users and afford them ease of travel,” said Alfon.

For those without RFID tags yet, CCLEX says they can schedule their installation by going to cclex.com.ph and clicking on 'Register'. Walk-ins are also accepted at the Customer Service Centers that are located on both sides near the CCLEX Toll Plaza, and offsite installation stations at Anjo World and Landers Superstore in Cebu.

If you're a motorist who frequently uses the CCLEX but has to get an RFID tag on your vehicle, better get one as soon as possible as there are only just three weeks left before the expressway switches to collect toll fees electronically on October 1, 2022.
