CAVITEX C5 Link Flyover 1.6-km extension opens

Motorists who frequently travel between Manila-Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX) and C5 South Link can now get to their destinations faster. This comes after the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) and the Cavitex Infrastructure Corporation (CIC) jointly announced that a new segment of the CAVITEX C5 Link Flyover Extension is now open.

The new 1.6-km segment, which links Merville to E. Rodriguez, connects to the operational 2.2-km flyover that provides access and improved travel time for motorists bound for C5 Road in Taguig from Merville, Paranaque, and vice versa. With it, the new segment serves as a milestone achievement towards the completion of the much-awaited CAVITEX C5 Link.

With the opening of the CAVITEX C5 Link Flyover extension, a new traffic scheme will be implemented for motorists entering the expressway in Merville. Vehicles from Paranaque going to Taguig shall now pass through the new C5 Link Flyover Merville entry located in front of Shell C5 Southlink, Brgy. Moonwalk, Paranaque.

Present during the opening of the ceremony held last August 13 were key personnel from Metro Pacific Investments Corp (MPIC), Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC), and the Department of Transportation (DOTr).

These included MPIC Chairman Manny V. Pangilinan, DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista, MPTC president and CEO Rodrigo Franco, and MPT South president and general manager Raul Ignacio. Other figures present during the ceremony were Senator Mark Villar, Congressman Edwin Olivarez of Paranque's 1^st District, Paranaque City Mayor Eric Olivarez, and Mayor Imelda Calixto-Rubiano of Pasay City.

“More than 15,000 motorists going to Taguig from Paranaque and vice versa are expected to benefit with this new segment of CAVITEX C5 Link. We urge everyone to utilize Easytrip RFID to avoid the long line at cash lane and maximize the benefit of shorter travel time,” said Ignacio.

With the new segment now open, the TRB has approved the provisional toll fee for the extended C5 Link. Class 1 motorists will now have to shell out PHP 37 while Class 2 vehicles have to pay PHP 74. Last but not least, Class 3 vehicles are required to pay PHP 112. However, implementation of the new toll rates will be deferred for September as the company's gesture of goodwill to motorists.

“We encourage motorists to use the CAVITEX C5 Link flyover extension while it still has no additional charge, for them to enjoy the added benefit,” added Ignacio.

As for the other segments of the C5 Link, construction for Segment 2 of CAVITEX C5 Link – which will connect other segments to CAVITEX R-1 Expressway in Paranaque, is now 30% complete per the latest update. Once connected, the segment will shorten travel time from Cavite to Sucat as well as decongest local roads such as Sucat Road and Quirino Avenue.

Once the project is completed entirely, the 7.7-km CAVITEX C5 Link will connect with CAVITEX R-1 Paranaque Toll Plaza which will help cut travel time from CAVITEX to Makati, Taguig, and Pasay by 30 to 45 minutes. This, in turn, will help decongest EDSA, MIA Road, Roxas Boulevard, and other major roadways. More than 50,000 motorists are expected to benefit from this project once it's finished in 2023.
