Brake Issue: Toyota PH has a recall for Avanza, Raize, Veloz

Toyota models underpinned by the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) platform have been in hot water as of late because of newfound irregularities regarding safety testing. While that issue did not include units exported to the Philippines, there’s now a separate safety concern that affects local units in the country.

Department of Trade and Industry Region 12 has posted on social media that Toyota Motor Philippines has issued a recall for select Avanza, Raize, and Veloz models regarding the replacement of its brake cylinder slide pin boot. The recall notice is yet to be posted on the DTI website, but according to our close sources, owners of affected units have already been notified via the myToyota app.

According to the post, a fault during assembly caused damage to the slide pin boot. Over time, if water enters the slide pin boots, it may cause rusting and lead to premature wear of the brake pads.

In total, there are 10,975 units affected; those include 3,119 Avanza units with production period covering September 12 to December 11, 2022, 4,345 units of the Raize made between September 12 and December 7, 2022, and 3,511 Veloz units produced from September 12 to December 13, 2022.

Toyota Motor Philippines will replace the front disc brake cylinder slide pin assembly. If necessary, they will replace the brake cylinder mounting itself. TMP will do this at no charge to vehicle owners.
