Binondo-Intramuros Bridge opens April 5

The Duterte administration is well-known to have strengthened the Philippines' ties with the People's Republic of China. And towards its last few days, the supposed symbol of friendship between the two countries is ready to serve the public.

After the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) lit up the steel arch bridge a few days ago, DPWH Undersecretary Emil K. Sadain has finally confirmed that the Binondo-Intramuros bridge will be inaugurated tomorrow, April 5.

Built over the Pasig River, the bridge between the world's oldest Chinatown and the Walled City completes the two China-grant bridges promised under the Build, Build, Build program after the Estrella-Pantaleon bridge was finished last July 2021.

Spanning a total length of 680 lineal meters, the two-way, four-lane bridge is expected to serve around 30,000 vehicles on a daily basis, especially those coming from Intramuros' Solana Street and Riverside Drive to Binondo's Rentas Street and Muelle dela Industria and vice versa.

Other than vehicles, bikers and joggers could also utilize this newly-built bridge. A dedicated bike lane was built on both sides together with a built-in protected pedestrian walkway.

The Binondo-Intramuros bridge is another addition to Manila's iconic landscape and shows its stunning visual appeal, especially at night. For those who fancy some street photography with a little food trip on the side, this is definitely a new place to visit.
