Bike lanes in Marikina, South Manila now complete

Motorists, be aware of these Class 3 or Shared Roadway lanes opened by the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Marikina and south of Metro Manila.

The two project totals 66.10 kilometers worth of rehabilitated and improved road space. It connects to the existing 313-kilometers Metro Manila Bike Lane Network.

Project one is the 17.20-kilometer East or Marikina Bike Lane Network composed of the following:

• 72-kilometer General Ordoñez Avenue
• 90-kilometer Liwasang Kalayaan
• 92-kilometer J. Molina, Scarlet and Russet Streets
• 64-kilometer Park Creek, from St. Vincent Hospital to Marikina Rehabilitation Center

The second part is the 48.90-kilometer South Manila Bike Lane Network covering the following areas:

• 87-kilometer Quirino Avenue to San Antonio Avenue via NAIA Road, Ninoy Aquino Road and Parañaque-Sucat Road in Parañaque
• 83-kilometer Carlos P. Garcia Ext. to Bridgeway Avenue/North Bridgeway via Diego Cera Avenue and Alabang-Zapote Road in Muntinlupa
• 20-kilometer Investment Drive to Portofino Heights via Daang Hari Road in Las Piñas

According to DPWH Secretary Roger Mercado, these roads now come with reflectorized thermoplastic pavement markings, bike lane separators, bike racks, and road signages to ensure the safety of cyclists.

Despite the bicycle route markings, as a Class 3 or Share Roadway, these lanes will be shared with motor vehicles, so cyclists are advised to exercise caution.
