Besides PHEV, Nissan Frontier Pro also comes with a turbo-diesel
Apart from a 1.5L PHEV powertrain, the Nissan Frontier Pro can also be powered by a 2.3L turbo-diesel

We already know that the Nissan Frontier Pro plug-in hybrid (PHEV) pickup has the likes of the BYD Shark 6 on its sights. While Nissan Philippines Inc. (NPI) has yet to announce whether they plan to bring it here, we won't be surprised if they intend to sometime in the future. Heck, NPI already announced they will have plenty of launches next year, and we're hoping the Frontier Pro PHEV is included.
But did you know the Frontier Pro is also available with an internal combustion engine (ICE)? That's right, the twin of the Dongfeng Z9 now also comes with ICE under the hood after the automaker launched a different version of the pickup truck, which was just recently launched in the PRC.
Like the Dongfeng Z9, the Nissan Frontier Pro can be powered by a 2.3L turbo-diesel engine that's available in two states of tune. The standard version puts out 145 PS via a single turbo setup, while the higher-output version cranks out 190 PS thanks to a twin-turbo setup. If those figures look familiar, that's because the 2.3L engine is the YS23 (AKA the Renault M9T) turbo-diesel engine that's also available in the Thai-spec Nissan Navara.
Power is then sent to the wheels via an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission. Depending on the variant chosen, the ICE version of the Nissan Frontier Pro is available with RWD or with 4WD.
Design-wise, the Frontier Pro shares the same looks as the Frontier Pro PHEV. From the distinct LED lighting signatures to the trim design, as well as the LED taillights, the ICE version looks identical to the plug-in hybrid.
The Nissan Frontier Pro and Frontier Pro PHEV are both made in China and will be offered for the global market, with deliveries set to begin in the first half of next year. With that, we can expect both the PHEV and ICE models to make their way to countries all over the world.
Hopefully, the Philippine market is included in those markets that will receive the Frontier Pro and Frontier Pro PHEV.
