Bangkok 2025: Hyundai Kona Electric previewed in Thailand, will PH get it?

Mention the words Hyundai and EV and more than likely you'll think of vehicles like the IONIQ 5 and the IONIQ 6. However, the Korean automaker is also known for making electric versions of some of its ICE models.

The automaker made its presence felt at the 46^th Bangkok International Motor Show with several models like the refreshed 2025 Creta. Also present at the ongoing motor show is the all-new Hyundai Kona Electric. Based on the second generation model, the electric crossover gets a Staria-inspired design with its distinct front fascia which consists of an LED light bar and split LED headlight design.

Like the 2025 Creta, the Kona Electric comes with the N Line appearance pack which gives it a sportier look courtesy of a new bumper, a flashier grille, a blacked-out roof, stylish two-tone alloy wheels, and aggressive side skirts and rear bumper. Combined with the black and red finish throughout the vehicle, the Kona Electric N Line stands out from every direction.

Hop inside and the Kona Electric welcomes occupants into a high-tech yet ergonomic cabin. It gets a pair of digital displays which serve as the instrument cluster and the touchscreen infotainment system. It also comes with buttons for the HVAC system and a stalk below the steering wheel which serves as its gear selector. Other features like LED ambient lighting, a wireless charging pad, N Line leather-wrapped steering wheel, red contrast accents, and ventilated seats for extra comfort.

No exact specifications about its electric powertrain were mentioned by Hyundai. In other markets, however, the Kona Electric gets a 400V architecture and is available with two battery pack variants; 48.4 kWh for the Standard Range and 65.4 kWh for the Long Range version. It has a single electric motor that drives the front wheels which makes 255 Nm of torque across the range. Depending on the variant, however, the Kona Electric can make between 135 PS to 218 PS.

With the Kona Electric being previewed for the Thai market, we're curious if Hyundai plans to eventually bring the EV to the Philippines. But before that, Hyundai Motor Philippines Inc. (HMPH) may have to first launch the Kona Hybrid based on our previous report.
