Aside from T90, MG PH to also bring U9 full-size pickup?

Electrification may be all the rage today, but MG Philippines is set to offer more than just EVs and hybrids. Yes, they already have the MG4, ZS EV, Cyberster, and the upcoming all-new MG ZS HEV, but they are also set to enter the seven-seater SUV market with the D90, which the brand previewed a few months ago.

Beyond that, MG Philippines also plans to disrupt the midsize pickup truck market with the T90 Extender. In fact, the brand already received regulatory approval for an upcoming light-duty vehicle that’s powered by a 1996cc diesel engine, which translates to a displacement of 2.0 liters. Since a 2.0L turbo-diesel engine also powers the D90, it stands to reason that both the D90 and T90 Extender will feature the same turbo-diesel powertrain.

In the future, however, MG’s lineup of turbo-diesel engines could also include a full-size pickup truck. This comes after MG Philippines recently received regulatory approval for yet another light-duty vehicle. Based on the listing we found, MG’s latest mystery light-duty vehicle comes with a 2498cc diesel engine. This translates to a displacement of 2.5L, which makes it bigger than the 2.0L found in the D90 and T90.

After doing some research, it looks like MG Philippines is set to bring the MG U9 into the country. Also called the Maxus Terron 9, it’s a full-size pickup truck that looks lean and mean thanks to its Chevrolet/GMC-inspired design. It’s set to debut in late 2025 in Australia and will come with several key features.

For starters, it will have the aforementioned 2.5L turbo-diesel engine. No output figures have been released just yet, although it will likely make the figures as its Maxus twin. That means we could expect the MG U9 to produce 217 PS and 520 Nm of torque. It will also have an eight-speed automatic transmission with 4WD for go-anywhere capability. In addition, MG claims the U9 is rated to tow 3.5 tonnes, which makes it more than capable of hauling heavy equipment with ease.

Beyond that, the MG U9 will also be equipped with a fully decked-out interior that’s both high-tech and comfortable. No specifications have been revealed, although based on the initial photos, the MG U9 will come with a panoramic display on the dashboard, full leather upholstery, a jet fighter-inspired gear selector, a massive center armrest, and more.
