All-new 2024 BMW 5 Series now in PH, gas and EV available
Eighth generation BMW 5 Series codenamed G60 revealed in ICE and EV forms in the Philippines

After launching its full-size flagship luxury sedan last year, BMW distributor SMC Asia Cars Distributors Corp has now revealed its latest executive sedan. Say hello to the eighth generation 2024 BMW 5 Series, and just like its bigger sibling, the all-new executive sedan is now available with either internal combustion or as a pure electric vehicle (EV).

Codenamed the G60, the latest generation 5 Series marks the sedan’s 52nd anniversary and features BMW’s new athletic design philosophy. But whereas the 7 Series adopted the (infamous) split headlight design, the all-new 5 Series went with tradition as it dons the signature headlight design albeit sporting a new set of LED daytime running lights. Also ever present are the dual kidney grilles which have been redesigned for both the ICE and EV versions.

As mentioned earlier, the sedan features a more athletic design which is evident in the vehicle’s broader shoulder lines, more aggressive front end, and more stylish rear. Speaking of the rear, the all-new 5 Series gets a pair of sporty LED wraparound taillights. Like all, if not most BMWs, the 2024 5 Series features the Hoffmeister kink while the roofline gets a coupe-like finish which shows off the vehicle’s sleeker appearance.

In terms of size, BMW’s new executive sedan measures 5060mm long, 1900mm wide, and 1515mm tall. This translates to a 97mm increase in length, an extra 32mm in width, and an additional 36mm in height. Moreover, it gets an extra 20mm on its wheelbase - resulting in a more generous 2995mm. Last but not least, the 2024 5 Series rolls on massive 19-inch alloy wheels and is available in the following colors; Mineral White, Black Sapphire, Cape York Green, Oxide Gray, Phytonic Blue, and Sophisto Gray.

Open the doors and passengers are welcomed into a sporty yet luxurious cabin that’s highlighted by the BMW Live Cockpit Plus. The result is a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel that’s accompanied by a bigger 14.9-inch infotainment display on the center dashboard. It runs on the latest iDrive 8.5 and supports wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay connectivity along with satellite navigation as standard.

When it comes to creature comforts and amenities, the 2024 5 Series comes loaded. These include a four-zone climate control, a Harmon Kardon sound system, LED ambient lighting, dark silver & dark graphite trim accents, power-adjustable front seats with memory function, and Veganza Perforated & Quilted upholstery.

For added peace of mind, the all-new 5 Series now also comes with BMW ConnectedDrive Services. Like the i4 which was launched earlier this year, this feature works alongside the MyBMW App and gives users the ability to remotely control certain functions of the 5 Series. It also gives digital services like a navigation system that uses a cloud-based system with precise route calculations and real-time data updates.

Over to its powertrain options, the all-new 5 Series can come with an internal combustion engine or with a fully-electric powertrain. Beginning with the latter is the i5 eDrive40 which gets a single electric motor that drives the rear wheels. It generates 340 PS with 430 Nm of torque which allows the sedan to sprint from 0 - 100 km/h in a brisk 6 seconds. Top speed, on the other hand, is rated at 193 km/h.

An 81.2 kWh lithium-ion battery pack supplies power to the electric motor and gives the vehicle a cruising range of up to 582 km based on the WLTP cycle. It comes with an onboard 11 kW AC charging system via the BMW i Wallbox although the system is capable of supporting 205 kW DC charging for quicker recharges.
Next is the turbocharged version of the 2024 5 Series dubbed the 520i. It consists of a 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder engine that’s assisted by a 48V mild-hybrid system. It makes a generous 208 PS with 330 Nm of torque and is coupled to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. 0 - 100 km/h can be achieved in a mere 7.5 seconds while top speed is rated at 230 km/h.

Pricing of the 2024 BMW 5 Series and i5 are as follows:
2024 BMW 520i - PHP 4,990,000
2024 BMW i5 eDrive40 EV - PHP 5,790,000
